| The Serchio Valley, after Ponte a Moriano, can be reached
driving along the Via Lodovica (on the right of the river Serchio)
or the Via del Brennero (on the left). |
By Pescaglia a first detour leads
to Vetriano and Colognora (huge buildings, and Museo
del Castagno) and another one to Celle where there is
the sixteenth century house of Giacomo Puccini's ancestors,
today a Museum.
Borgo a Mozzano with the characteristic Ponte del Diavolo, is town of high historical
and artistic tradition. Driving along the river Lima past the Ponte delle Catene
you see the roman town Bagni di Lucca, one of the oldest Italian health resorts,
which is famous in Europe for the steam cave and its variety of warm water. |

| In short time you reach Coreglia Antelminelli: in the higher
part there is the palace Vanni (seat of the Museo della Figurina
di Gesso e dell'Emigrazione), with its collection of more than
1,000 statues, antique and modern cribs and various documents
about the activity of the statue-makers in the world. |

But the charm of the Media Valle
del Serchio can be tasted in its totality in the parvis
of the dome of Barga.
From up there everything seems to be to hand: the Serchio, the Apuane, the Appennino
the new part of the town along the Pian-grande.
The close territory of Barga offers you suggestive views and events for art,
tradition and poetry, the house-museum of Giovanni Pascoli in Castelvecchio,
are the stops of an interesting tour. |
